PINK LAKES VICTORIA
One of my favorite natural landscape locations is Pink Lakes in Victoria. Some of these photographs were taken in 2010 which saw an exceptional flow of water into the normally dry salt pans. Algae (Dunaliella salina ) growing in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake produces the red pigment, (beta carotene) as part of its photosynthesis process. As you might imagine these lakes are extremely saline, but not all that large. We have encountered many bird species in this area as well, which is a dilemma; do I spend the mornings working on landscape or bird photography? Its just about impossible to do both simultaneously.
